Belle Isle Havana Nights
The air was so hot, you could cut it with a knife. The vintage automobiles roared down the boulevard as cigar smoke billowed up through the trees. Drums, horns, and strings brought hundreds to the dance floor.
This was the scene last Saturday at the Havana Nights Charity Soiree, a unique party at the Belle Isle Casino that brought the magic of Cuba to the grit of Detroit. Emily and I sipped, savored and salsa danced all night long, and looked the part in our unique Latin-inspired outfits.
Neither of us had ever been to the Belle Isle Casino, and its beauty did not disappoint.

His Style Spotlight
My outfit is from George Gregory, Detroit’s new menswear shop. Caitlin Riney, George Gregory’s founder, helped me style a Cuban-themed look that looked and felt authentic. This pink and white button-up felt airy and comfortable, and balanced nicely with the black henley I layered underneath. Caitlin’s Corktown store provides a refreshingly masculine shopping experience, and after chatting with her for 5 minutes, you’ll feel like you’ve known her since elementary school! I will definitely be back to George Gregory - the store offers an awesome selection of eye-catching summer swag.
Her Style Spotlight
You can't go to a Cuban-themed party without sporting floral or palm fronds of some sort. When I saw this dress by Ferne Boutique at the 1441 Collective, I knew it would be the perfect option to rock for this event, while staying cool. Even though this piece was perfect for Havana Nights, I know I'll get tons of wear out of this dress the rest of the summer - maybe even for a wedding! For this look I paired the figure-flattering wrap dress with a minimal, lacy bralette from Bird Bee, nude heels and a fun, bamboo statement bag. Topped with a few delicate rose gold jewelry details and I was set to samba the night away!
