Rivertown is full of beautiful wreckage from a bygone era. Extending east of Jefferson from the Belle Isle Bridge to the end of I-375, this is one of the oldest districts in Detroit. It's also where I call home. The RiverWalk anchors my neighborhood and welcomes me with it's tranquil paths and sweeping river views. Despite the river's grandeur, block after block of Rivertown is dotted with abandoned warehouses. I adventured into a few of these buildings and solemnly observed the haunting decay.
I've always called Detroit a beautifully ugly place. It will always be imperfect and a bit disheveled. No matter. Detroit offers me space to breathe and to grow. Space to appreciate the scars that line the landscape and the stories I've not yet learned.
The clothes you wear don't make you who you are, your experiences do. Detroit has served as the backdrop to my life's most memorable experiences, and I'm very excited to create new ones and share them with you here at Dssentials.
