Spring Fling Pastels

I used to be that person that couldn't wait to style outfits for work.  Now, I'm the person that can't wait to style outfits for my weekends.  Sure, I still put in effort to look nice at my day job, but this new venture has re-invigorated my passion for styling outfits and searching high and low for that finishing touch to give my outfit the perfect look and feel.

Now that spring is (slowly) arriving, I've been adding pops of color like pastels into my largely black winter rotation.  It's been fun to get outside of my grey, black and neutral comfort zone.  The only thing that makes this more fun is wearing two of my favorite local boutiques!  Let me give you the low-down so you can shop my look or find similar pieces you'll love!

Detroit Boutiques I'm Loving:

  • Ferne Boutique.  This one should have an asterisk, because their Detroit location is *almost* open!  I discovered this awesome shop through my blogger girlfriend, and also courtesy of the downtown holiday market shops this past winter.  I loved their seasonal pop-up, so I was thrilled to hear they're opening a permanent spot right around the corner from the Fisher Building in New Center next month!  Until then, I shop online - but if you're in mid-Michigan, check out their original locale in downtown Bay City.  What I love is that they cover all your bases.  Simple basics and layering pieces, cute dresses, ath-leisure and tees - and for women of all ages and sizes.  This top is from Ferne - and I've been wearing it nonstop!  The mint color is feminine and the pleated sleeve detail is a fresh touch!
  • Bird Bee.  It's safe to say that this boutique is my favorite to visit in the downtown area!  Nestled in the charming Capitol Park area just off Griswold Street, this is a must-see stop on your list.  Their tagline is "For the expressive and edgy soul," which couldn't be more accurate!  What's awesome is you'll find a little bit of everything here - edgy leather bombers, flowing two-piece separate sets, delicate and layer-worthy jewelry.  They've got a boho-chic vibe that overarches the pieces you'll see, and my favorite pieces will have a fun twist, like an embroidered applique or a faded, worn-in vibe.  For this look, my vintage high-waisted jeans and wide-brim grey hat are from here.  I think both anchor the look in unique ways.  The jeans are a staple - I'll be styling them again and again with fun heels as it warms up.  The hat is a great final accessory that adds some flair and a boho air.

Be sure to check both of these stops out on your next spring trip to the D!  You won't be disappointed.  Oh, and give me a heads up - I'll come meet you and we can shop together!
